Sub-Rock aka PUNK
The Negatives
1976-1978

the negatives 1976 - I was the only musician amongst a housewife, two artists and one of the coolest party animals I've ever known. Ray Johnson (MIA) took these photos at the beach bathrooms by the old Funland park in SF and we sent them out to many magazines during the beginnings of what later became the heyday of the PUNK era with a fictious bio and got picked up by several underground music mags in NY and SF which led to us being invited to play at Mabuhay Gardens in SF, the only problem being that we had no band only a look and a bio.
The band featured: Kanga on vocals & shouting; David Breton' on background vocals & knife; MR Snake (a real punk) on lead vocals & sneer; Andy Applesause on lead vocals and general attitude; Fred (Freddy) Gordon on guitar, bass, drums, synthy stuff & vocals.
I wrote all of the music and Andy & Snake & I wrote all of the lyrics to epic original songs like:
Feeling Homicidal • Rock & Roll Makes You Stupid
& our classic anthem of the day
"We Hate You"
all photos by Ray Johnson R.I.P.?

following the Mabuhay invite we decided to form a real band and I recruited my old pals from Jacamar to fill in on bass & drums and off we went coming up with enough originals and covers (see above) to play about 4 gigs with no opening act. Were we any good? Soon you'll be able to listen & decide for yourself as I hope to have a few NEGATIVES mp3 clips in my audio section of this site soon.
below is the final incarnation of The Negatives as seen at the end of 1977
the pic below is from the rear cover of The Other Issue #2

The Negative 1978 final lineup
Andi Climax • Little London • Fred "Freddy" Gordon • MR Snake
Below is a letter that Fred "freddy" Gordon wrote in reply to a 1977 Art Show
he messed up at Tyler Micoleau's gallery on Commerical St., Nevada City, CA
ah yes the bliss & innocence (or is that "ignorance"?) of youth...
